The Civilization series has a solid track record of satisfying its fans while mixing it up at least a little with every iteration and even though sometimes there was backlash, expansions mostly fixed the issues. The latest iteration, Civilization Beyond Earth has just gotten a trailer in which the reasons and circumstances for the off-world setting are presented.

It is touching and beautifully done, even though it is a bit cliche-ish.
